Since I started work on Fokofpolisiekar some 10 years ago, numerous people have attempted to document the cultural phenomenon surrounding the band. Obviously this has lead to a lot of my work being featured in many different formats. One of the latest and greatest has been the Biography written by Annie Klopper. The book was designed and laid out by my good friends at AMICOLLECTIVE, who were also responsible for awesome cover illustrations, close-ups of which can be seen in the last two frames of this post. The book itself is a great read and the research and writing put into it are amazing. I am really grateful to be recognised along with the band in this story of teenage rebellion and cultural change.
Two years ago Fly on the Wall released a documentary feature film on the band. I was interviewed extensively for the movie and featured in it. The movie went to all the film festivals across the globe and received acclaim both in South Africa and abroad.
It’s crazy to think that what we were doing out of creative necessity has been so widely regarded as a cultural movement and a change in the way that South Africa in a post-apartheid era re-evaluated Afrikaans culture.
